Midstream pregnancy test.

What is the difference between midstream test and strip test??

Ans: Midstream tests are easier to use. You need not collect your urine in a container.. Just pee on the sticker and results will show..

Why buy this midstream test?

Ans: If you do not like to collect your urine sample first but do not want to invest in ClearBlue,then this is the one for you. It is a cheaper alternatives to ClearBlue pregnancy test and the accuracy is up to 99.98%. Can detect 20 mIU/ml of hcG in the urine. Can be used to test for pregnancy on the first day of your missed menses.

How much??

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) is a glycoprotein hormone secreted by the developing placenta shortly after egg fertilization. hCG can be detected in the urine (also blood and serum) of a patient as early as 6 to 15 days after conception. The intended use of these tests is to screen for early beta hCG development which occurs between 5-50 mIU/mL. The hCG is released by the pituitary gland and and peaks at 100,000-200,000 mIU/mL the end of the first trimester.

The home pregnancy test strips can detect as little as 20mIU/mL amount of hCG in the urine. These hpt are easy to use and results will show within 30 seconds to 10 minutes.

How to use:

1.Collect urine sample in a container/cup.
2.Dip the strip in the urine sample,do not dip below the "max" line.
3.Wait for the urine sample to "travel up" untill u see the control line-nearer to the blue portion (in red).
4.Wait for 5 to 10 mins for the results to appear.
5. Discard the test strip and ignore results after 10 mins. Some people have the experience of picking up the test strip again and see a very very faint +ve line,that could be an "evaporation" line and does not mean a +ve test.

Result interpretation

Positive= You are pregnant! Two lines on the strip. The result line is between the control line and "max". A faint result line is considered positive too. Anytime you are unsure about your result,you may consult your gynae or GP.

Negative = Not pregnant. Or hCG level too low to be detected. You will only see the control line.

Single line = negative/not pregnant :( Double line = positive/ pregnant :)

How do ovulation tests work?
Luteinizing hormone (LH) is always present in human urine. LH increases dramatically just before women's most fertile day of the month in a process commonly referred to as the "LH Surge" This LH increase triggers ovulation, which means an egg is released from woman's ovary.

What time of day should I test?
The best times to test are between 11am and 3pm and 5pm and 10pm. If you want to make sure that you catch your LH surge, you may want to test twice a day, once in the earlier time frame and the other in the later time frame. Please keep in mind that while you may have the initial surge of LH earlier in the day if testing via blood tests, you will not get a positive result on the ovulation test until 4-5 hours later when the surge actually reaches your urine. Be sure to test at the same time each day.

How long after my LH surge should I ovulate?
Ovulation tests detect the ovulation hormone, luteinising hormone (LH), which rises or 'surges' 24-36 hours before you ovulate.
Once I detect my LH surge, when should I have intercourse?
Have sex during the 48 hours following your LH Surge to maximize your chances of getting pregnant during this cycle.

Before You Begin
Read all these instructions fully before starting your test.
Do not open the foil packet until you are ready to perform the test.
Do not use the LH One-Step Ovulation Test Strip beyond the expiration date printed on the package.
Store tests at room temperature (below 86 degrees F). Do not freeze.
Early morning testing is not recommended as most women experience a blood LH surge but it does not show up in the urine until later in the day.
The best times to test are between 11am and 3pm and 5pm and 10pm.
Some women have found that their best sample is after 12 noon.
Test at the same time each day.
Reduce your liquid intake for 2 hours before testing, since drinking excessive amounts of liquids can dilute the LH in your urine yielding a negative result when it should be positive.

When to Begin Testing

Depends on the length of cycle days of your menses. Here is a guideline on when you can start starting on ovulation strip.

"length of cycle days = CD(cycle day) counting from the day one of menses known as CD1"

eg. I have a 30 days cycle, I usually get a +ve on CD16. (as a rough guideline)

Instructions

1. Bring the test pouch to room temperature (18-30degree). Collect urine into a clean container (such as plastic cup). The best way to collect sample is by placing a cup in the middle of urination process. To begin testing, open the sealed pouch by tearing along the notch. Remove the test from the pouch when you are ready to use it.

2. Immerse the strip into the urine with the arrow end pointing toward the urine. Do not immerse past the MAX (maximum) line. Take the strip out after 5 seconds and lay the strip flat on a clean, dry, non-absorbent surface (e.g., mouth of the urine container). Do not immerse for longer than 7 seconds.

3. Wait for colored bands to appear. Depending on the concentration of LH in the test specimen, positive results may be observed in as little as 40 seconds. However, to confirm negative results, the complete reaction time of 10 minutes is required. Do not read results after more than 30 minutes.

4. After interpreting the test results, discard the test strip.

Interpretation of the Test
As the LH One Step Ovulation Test Strip begins to work, a colored band will appear in the upper section of the result area to show that the test is working properly. This band is the Control Band (C). The lower section of the result area indicates the test results. If another colored band, the Test Band (T), appears at the lower section of the result area and is of equal or darker color than the Control Band, the results should be interpreted as a positive test.

Positive Result:
If two color bands are visible and the test band is equal to or darker than the control band, one will probably ovulate in the next 24-48 hours. If one wants to be pregnant, the best time to have intercourse is after 24 hours but before 48 hours.

Negative Result :Only one color band appears on the control region or the test band is present but lighter in color intensity than the control band. There is no LH surge even if two lines present - as long as test line is fainter than the control line the result is negative.

Invalid Result: No visible bands in the control and test regions. Make sure to follow the above specified instructions for optimum results. You have to repeat the test by using a new LH One-Step Ovulation Test Strip.

When to Stop Testing: Unless otherwise specified by your doctor, stop testing once the LH surge is detected.

Limitations of the Test
For single in vitro diagnostic use only - use test only once for urine screening.
Do not use test kit beyond expiry date.
The test works only if the instructions are followed precisely. Although the LH One-Step Ovulation Test Strip is highly accurate and sensitive in detecting ovulation, an extremely low incidence of false results (positive when no ovulation exists or negative when ovulation exists) can occur.

The LH One-Step Ovulation Test Strip should not be used for contraception.
Some prescription drugs, such as menotropins may affect the test result. Certain rare medical conditions or the onset of menopause can cause elevated levels of LH. Some women do not ovulate every cycle and they will not see any increase in the level of LH hormone during these non-ovulating cycles. Women with Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) may not get reliable results from ovulation tests. Please check with your doctor if you are unsure.
